I’m that mom who taught her children how to blow bubbles in their drinks, put olives on all 10 fingers, make mashed potato mountains with slides for the peas, so that when one of the Grandmas told the kids, “Your mother didn’t teach you to play with your food!” they replied, “Oh yes she did!”
I’m that mom who took her kids seriously and who told them that intuition doesn’t lie, and when you get that Uh-Oh feeling, PAY ATTENTION. I’m the mom who told them that it is only a game if everyone wants to play, stop means stop, and no means no.
I’m that mom who told the kids that it is good luck to be nice, and that sometimes the quietest people have the most to say, you just have to listen.
I’m that mom who said that ice cream for breakfast is fun and that extended drives to go to something we wanted to do JUST SOUNDED FAR.
I’m that mom who told her kids that we can generate alternative solutions to problems, and that we can ask questions and question answers.
I’m that mom who loved one daughter’s love of horses and who went to all the swim meets until the swimmer no longer wanted to swim. Then. We. Stopped.
I’m that mom who worked hard to nurture her kids’ roots, who never takes credit for their accomplishments, who understands that she can’t take away their struggles — no matter how painful — and who, in wonder and in love, watches them spread their wings and fly.
I’m that mom who treasures the community of those moms, and who recognizes that we all do the best we can with the tools and information we have at any given time.
I’m that mom.
Thanks to Ronnie who started this carnival based on a post by Flo.

I’ve been away from here for a while: life has been happening. Summer has arrived in my Valley, even though the calendar says we have a few more days of Spring.
The garden is growing, and we are beginning to harvest some lovely produce. Peas are most often consumed in the garden and on the way back to the house. They are huge this year, and delicious as well. We planted strawberries last year, and are enjoying their ruby red fruits—as long as we beat the slugs to them.
Take a look at today’s harvest, and, as always, feel free to leave me a comment, or a stone (o), to let me know that you’ve stopped by.

It was three years ago yesterday that I began this blogging journey.Much has happened in those 3 years, and as I read back through the archives, I remember. Births and deaths, illness and healing, artistic growth— all part of the majesty of this life. We’ve demonstrated the Power of One as we’ve raised our cups of kindness. We’ve shared cups of coffee and glasses of wine over the cyber-fence, as wetappity tap our wishes, lies and dreams.
Thanks for sharing your world and mine. I’ve posted some photos of this frosty April morning in my neck of the woods. As always, feel free to leave me a comment, or a stone (o), to let me know you’ve stopped by.
and a blue true dream of sky; and for everything which is natural
which is infinite which is yes ~~ee cummings
Now that cake, ice cream and party hats are no longer an issue for me, birthdays are a time of reflection. I am so grateful for what I have: for the family and friends who surround me with love and care; for the leaping greenly sprirts of trees, the blue true dream of sky for everything which is natural which is infinite which is yes. And it is the only day of the year when I can crank up the volume and dance with reckless abandon in the kitchen.

Each day I take a look at the words that grace the calendar on my kitchen wall. Some days I look ahead to see if there is a word that strikes me. All the words make me think. Here are this week’s Words for Wednesday:
**exclave–a noun: the portion of a country separated from the main part and constituting an enclave in respect to the surrounding territory
**bird-dog–a verb: 1. to watch closely;Â 2. to seek out: follow or detect
**colubrine–an adjective: 1. relating to a snake; 2. relating to a large family of nonvenomous snakes
**revenant–a noun: one that returns after death or a long absence
This week’s favorite:
**tub-thumper–a noun: a vociferous supporter (as of a cause)
I have certainly thumped some tubs in my time. How about you?
As always, feel free to leave me a comment, ot a stone, (o), to let me know you stopped by.
