Mug Shots: A My Town Monday Post

Mugs at Elements Gallery, Peninsula, OH

As I sit sipping my coffee with frothed, steamed milk, I cradle my sacred mug in my hands.  The mug’s the thing, more than it’s contents. It’s handle, user friendly; it’s body rounded to fit in my hands.  Mugs are a personal thing.

Last summer I asked what you like in a mug. Since Spring has finally really arrived in my Valley, it’s time to ask again. What do you like in a mug?

Send me your mug shot, and I’ll enter your name in a drawing for one of our favorite mugs. Using my usual high tech method, in which I draw a name from a hat, I will draw a name on Sunday, May 9, and post the winner in next week’s MTM post.

Send your photo to me: from skilled hands AT gmail DOT com.

Visit My Town Monday to see who has what to say about his or her town.

I’m reading this post as I sit drinking coffee from the mug I won last year. It’s perfection, but more importantly, it makes me think of you every time I reach for it.

It’s funny….I no longer have a favorite Mug because I don’t dribk Coffee or Decaf or even Tea anymore–Or I should day very very rarely. I use to have favorite mugs, but they are long-gone….!
Love this idea though, and I wish I DID have a favorite mug so I could share it with you

My most favorite is a set of Fransican Desert Rose Mugs. They’re the perfect size, perfect weight and if anybody else in my house touches them they die. ;-)

Oh, Debra…I can only chose one? : )
I have several favorites, and a different relationship with each.
    I’ll highight my favorite 3:
    a) My tall, slender cobalt blue mug with hot orange trim. My son Tim “bought” it for my birthday the year he was seven. The fact that he used my money and bought it when we were grocery shopping together makes it even more sweet. It has a chip on one side, so now graces my knick knack shelf in the kitchen.
    b) Then there is the short, squat mug, wheel thrown by my friend, Candy. It has a grey glaze, with a blue rooster simply hand painted on one side. I think of her whenever I use it.
    c) My most whimsical one, shaped like a pregnant belly, sits on my coffee table with ballpoint pens at the ready for my childbirth students. Everyone gets a laugh out of my pregnant belly mug!

Send me photos of you and your favorite mug—I’ll start posting them tomorrow and do one of my high tech drawings on Sunday. Someone will win a new mug !

Debra! I didn’t send a picture last time because I *hate my mugs! I don’t have a one that I love. I can tell by the image above that the handles of those mugs are perfect – plenty of space for more than two fingers, which I like. Want me to send you a picture of the mug I use but don’t love??

It would be funny if Kris sent a photo-with-mug, all disgruntled looking. That would be great — before and after shots of people whose lives were changed by finding the right mug! I’ll send one of me gripping the little brown mug. I will get you the drawing of it, eventually, Debra! :)

I’m so glad I followed your link on FB to this page. You reminded me to dig my favorite mug out of the cabinet! It’s one my mother’s friend made when I was young. Each of us kids was allowed to choose one and I chose this one, which somehow managed to survive a tumultuous childhood and 38 moves with just the tiniest of chips. I took a picture of it and now it’s holding my morning chai. There is something very earthy and tranquil about drinking from a handmade pottery mug. Thank you for making me remember this!

I love this mug: 1) I love Mary Engelbreit’s art, ‘specially her cherries, 2) I bought it with Dead Husband’s life insurance, and 3) it makes me feel coordinated to use such a dainty cup.
This mug is not my life’s favorite: 1) I’d like a mug with individual personality, 2) this one is thin and dainty, it burns my hand, and 3) I am NOT so coordinated, I’ve broken 2 of 4 :)

I’ve sent a copy of the mug I use the most – bought for me a couple of years ago in father’s day. It’s fine for a mug of tea, but no good for when I want a good coffee. I know postage to the UK might be prohibitive, so I’ll understand if you keep it to Mainland US – although if I win I will most certainly blog about it :)

Debra, Here are my mugshots! Sorry it took all day. My computer is down and I had to find time for borrowing my daughters. : )
