Jeepers Peepers
If we pay attention, the natural world lets us know in many ways that the seasons are changing. The quality of the light is one thing I start to notice when Spring is just a promise. Each year my husband reminds me that it is only February, and that Winter has a ways to go. I see birds at the feeders that have spent the long Winter in the south and I hear their Spring songs. As I look at the willow and maple trees, I am aware of the familiar yellow and red tints, as their buds swell. Spring bulbs poke through the leaves that blanket their beds, and hints of yellow and blue appear. And then there are these sounds that I now hear each night:
What lets you know that Spring is here?

Debra, in Calif. spring means the hills turn green for a few months and everything is so pretty. Wish it could stay like that all year. It’s not as dramatic as a northeastern spring though.

I have to annually clean out the bird’s nest from my mailbox. Every year, they attempt, and every year I shoo them away. I gently pull out the intact nest and set it on the ground. Still, I don’t think they appreciate that much.

Believe it or not, Hawaii has a winter season. We have storms, and it’s a little colder than usual. There is snow on the mountains. I use my little space heater in my office sometimes, when it gets below 65 in the house. A friend of mine likes to talk about how she went down to check out what kind of furnace we had and was quite puzzled that we didn’t have one! No need!

Here in Boston when the snowdrops poke up their beautiful white heads I pack my winter sweaters away. I don’t care at all that there’s still a bit of a nip in the air, there’s no wool in sight! Have to say I love that we have these changing seasons, each one has its gift. And now the winter hibernation has ended!

I love the sound of spring peepers! Well, in the beginning, anyway. LOL.
