Spring is in the Air: A My Town Monday Post

As I sit here, I hear the cardinals and chickadees outside. The goldfinches at the feeders are sporting faint yellow feathers. The snowdrops are up. Rain is pouring on the metal roof, its familiar sounds comforting me.

The stream is racing, water cascading over rocks and winter debris. But mostly, I smell dogs. Dirty. Wet. Dogs.

Swollen

Mud. Season. Is. Here. Squishy boot sucking mud. Everywhere. It is part of the promise of spring in the Valley. And for this, I am thankful.

Spring is in the air here, too. Blustery wind with freezing rain as I type.

But your photo shows new green growth coming up…wonderful!!! Soon, spring will be here in all its glory.

The Spring air is nice, but I prefer the fall…it doesn’t smell like a wet dog when it rains :)

Our bulbs are coming up too but I know they will be thwarted by the end of the week.

    Debra,

I love your use of punctuation in this post. Ah, the wet smell of putrefaction in the spring as the rotten soil is opened up by straining shoots, searching for the sun, and roots, seeking more and more wet nutrients. And, ‘lo, as the ground opens up, the aromatic earth releases her decay-derived gases. Spring, as they say, is in the air. And in our shoes and socks if we left our wellies at home. Enjoy!

    Tschuess,
    Chris

We’re back to snowfall, despite a good rainfall and melt. I know spring approaches somewhere.

Spring is creeping up here, too. It was over 80 yesterday! (Just my quaint sense of humor).

Have I said I read your blog daily? I do, but if nothing pops into my head, I don’t make a comment like “I came; I saw: I read.”

    Happy pre-spring.

Barbara–more cold is headed our way, too, I hear.

I like Fall, too, David. If there is any mud, our dogs will always find it.

You usually get our weather a day in advance, Patti.

Ah, Chris, you have enhanced my olfactory experience.

    Thank for stopping by, Herrad.

We could still have more snow, too, Jennifer. Sometimes in April, but more than likely not as much as you get.

Gerry—you can leave me a stone (o) to let me know you’ve been here :-)

I stayed in my pajamas most of yesterday, choosing instead to knit and listen to the rain. We had torrential downpours all day long, nearly an inch of rain yesterday alone and probably an equal amount on Saturday. Today, it’s partly sunny, or mostly cloudy-depends on one’s outlook.

We could really use some of that rain here in the Texas panhandle. We’ve had only had a quarter of an inch of moisture since November.

Ah, spring! Complete with snow mould to clog up your sinuses and shut down your lungs. Well, we have a few more weeks before we get to that stage, in the meantime, I will just enjoy looking at everyone else’s postings…much better for my breathing ;)

There is nothing like The Birds Chirping and singing to let you know that SPRING is here, or Almost Here…..! Even though we don’t have season the way you do there, Spring is upon us, too….At least, I am hearing nore Birds these days….I’ll really know it is here when I begin to see the “mating dance”…..I Love Love Love Love LOVE, Spring!

We had a springy weekend then snow today in Boston. But it cannot last! Mud is a good sign!

For the television documentary on the Disappearance of Ambrose Small I located it, and have placed the links to the trailer and where the DVD can be obtained at the bottom of the post.

The sun shone in my garden all day here today, I even got a load of washing dried out there, first of the year!

How I envy you the cardinals! The last time we were back in the States, we counted cardinals. (Kentucky, I remember, had the most.) And I miss snowdrops too: we don’t have any here.

I am surprised to see your daffodils, as ours are just getting ready to bloom, and I thought we were two weeks at least ahead of your warmer weather!
