Of Snowflakes and Symphonies and the Hand Crafted Object

snowflakes Would there be a symphony with just one note? Would winter’s majesty be the same with only one shape of snowflake? Would there be great literature with just one word?

The magic of the hand crafted object is that each item is different. Mysteriously, magically unique. A compilation of all of the experiences in the artist’s life brought to the creation of one piece. Exquisite.

I’ve never heard a one note symphony, but I’ve heard variations on a theme with each variation adding to the whole. Lovely. One of my favorite things to listen to is Quadrophenia by The Who. Each song is beautiful on its own, but listen to it in its entirety, and it’s a completely different experience.

Indeed! As a painter, I know of what you speak. And there is something so wonderful and as you said, MAGICAL, about this fact.

BTW: Try looking at my “BLUES” Post with INTERNET EXPLORER…It looks Perfect when you use IE…Somehow in Firefox and some other things it hets all jumbled…BUT, in IE it is readable.

“Mysteriously, magically unique.” I like that.

Part of my life is about house-hunting and house selling these days, and I’m having trouble putting this kind of thing into words for the realtors. There’s an indefinable something that goes beyond the tic list of features in a house — granite countertops, square footage, central vac — and makes a house unique. Hmm. How to tell a realtor, “Find us a house with an indefinable mysterious, magical quality”? :)

It is nice to stop and just think about individual snowflakes for a minute. Unless I capture single flakes with my camera, I forget how beautiful each and every one is, and almost unique.

This was nice and calming for me to read with my coffee. :)
