My Town Monday: A Bit of This and That
It’s been cold and snowy in my town, the Village of Peninsula, population 602.
We were pretty much snowed in from Friday night through Saturday evening, and the snow piled up to about 12″. Dogs couldn’t wait to venture out to their winter playground, but it was so snowy that even they didn’t last too long. Lily the toy poodle who doesn’t know that she weighs 8 pounds, was so caked with snow that she slid across the floor.
Hard to believe that last week, things looked like this:

And today:

More snow and cold weather is on the way, we’re told. This is like the winters of my childhood, where snow blanketed the earth and muffled the sounds of humanity; where the windows became a canvas for Jack Frost, and the cold, crisp air a speaker for the sounds of Nature.
We the People, who really do live in the same town, have demonstrated the Power of One:
My Town Monday’s chief cook and bottle washer is the amazing Travis Erwin. Travis blogs over at One Word, One Rung, One Day. Last week, Travis and his family lost their home and belongings to a devastating house fire.
Fellow bloggers lost no time in developing this site:

Cups of Kindness continues online and, for a bit longer, at the Peninsula Art Academy and Elements Gallery in the Village of Peninsula. All proceeds from the sale of artwork benefits the Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank, where each dollar raised purchases 7 nutritious meals. To date, we have purchased more than 14,000 meals. Pretty amazing stuff, the Power of One.

Cheers Debra,
I have you updated! Its nice to see the difference that a week makes.
It is one thing seeing individual snowflakes on your window(?), quite another seeing them aggregated on the ground!
Tschuess,
Chris

Hi Debra! Just wanted to return the visit you made to my place. It looks like you are making and doing beautiful things over here.
Nice to meet you!

We certainly have a lot of snowflakes, Chris. And more are coming, we’re told.
Thanks for stopping by, Patti. Your snowflakes are pretty, too, I’m sure.
I hear we’re on the flight plan for more snow, c-o-l-d and high winds, Larramie.
Actually, it’s the Cuyahoga River, Gerry. The canal is just west of the river, or to the right.
Hey teeni, glad to see you, too (o)

I know…the weather’s been back and forth here also. Probably the same weather pattern, just a different corner of the state. We’ve all got our pj’s on inside tonight-our lucky charm for bringing on a snow day for the youngest grrrrl. Maybe we can take some of the brunt from you all:>)

One good thing about winter is the cold and snow assist with the appreciation of spring when it arrives. The cold snap that’s coming at least will not be as bad as what is happening in Alberta and Saskatchewan with overnight lows of -60C plus windchill factors.

I love a proper winter with snow, especially when it is followed by a proper spring and summer with sun. Your photographs are beautiful.

What a difference a week can make, Debra. The snow looks beautiful from out here in California, but I remember how cold it is from my days growing up in Pennsylvania. Hope the rest of your winter isn’t too awful.
