Tis the Season?

Twenty two inches of snow and it is still snowing. We closed our studio/gallery early yesterday and stayed home today. We couldn’t have gone anywhere if we had wanted——safely. Roads were closed except for essential travel.
The silence is incredible; the snow plentiful and heavy, glistening in the light of the lamp post. The dogs, delighted to go out again, waded through the drifts. Lily did her toy poodle-in- the-snow dance; all we could see was the black of her muzzle. We trudged up to the barn and onward toward the hillside, collapsing in the knee deep white stuff. The enormity of it all; the majesty of Nature is humbling.

Returning to this old house we peeled off the layers, our Carhartts stiff with snow. The familiar smell of wet dogs and wet clothing mingles with that of baking bread. We grab snacks, plop on the couch and listen to the wind outside.

How did you spend your Saturday?

Yep, and it’s still snowing. Did you get your mowing done?

Wow, a whopper! I talked to my mom in Montreal and they were having the same thing—the biggest storm since 1971 apparently. It pored rained here in Boston and I took a rainy day nap in the afternoon then we went out for a sushi dinner. We hadn’t been out to a restaurant in ages so why not go when you can get drenched? :) Well, the food was yummy and perked us right up but last night the wind blew so hard that our old house actually trembled! Hope you get shoveled out and that the sun shines! It’s shining here now but I think the basement is flooded. I know what we’re doing today!

similar kind of day here, tho we got 17″. It’s soo glistening today, the sky deep blue and the sun fairly blinding. I didn’t go out and tromp in it yesterday, but just stayed inside puttering with chores and in the kitchen. Am in a wheat coma today.

This is the kind of winter I remember as a child. I took a snowy day nap, Cathy. We also went to dinner—-through the woods to the in-laws.

It is amazing, isn’t it, Kelly. The sky is that infinite blue; the snow diamonds; the temperature hovering around 16 degrees. Time for my daily half cup of coffee with steamed milk.

Yesterday was a beautiful Saturday, very reminiscent of childhood and cozy family time. Also it was a gift from Mother Nature to remind us to slow down.

Easter is two weeks away… *VBG*

Mother Nature MADE us slow down, didn’t she Larramie? This sure felt like the snows of my childhood.

We took a yardstick outside and measured, Moanna. 22 inches of snow! We’ve been digging out for over three hours. It was 16 degrees and the tractor wouldn’t start.
I’m on my way out to the barn to give the chickens more food. The door to let them out is packed with snow and they are locked in.

How beautiful your snow sounds! It was bitterly cold here today and it snowed in the hills. In town, we got a lot of sleet and some tree-tearing winds, but no sadly no snow.

I will be writing in my blog about what I did on Saturday: I had about 18 inches of hair cut off, to raise money (weird, but true).

Thanks for commenting, Carole. The piles of snow are huge! Now with rising temperatures, and rain predicted, flooding is a concern. Then comes the mud!
